The Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), also known as Askarawan Zamfara, have paraded nine suspects arrested for alleged involvement in banditry, cattle rustling, intelligence gathering, logistics supply and other criminal activities across the state.

Key Highlights

  • Nine suspects paraded by Zamfara Community Protection Guards.
  • Suspects include alleged bandits, informants, logistics suppliers and a fake legal practitioner.
  • 20-year-old suspect allegedly spent months in Kachalla Gwaska’s camp.
  • Suspect claims over ₦226 million was collected as ransom from multiple abductions.
  • CPG also arrested an alleged bandit doctor accused of treating wounded insurgents.
  • Operations were conducted through intelligence-led efforts across Zamfara.

The CPG Commandant, retired AIG Shehu Dalijan, disclosed this during the parade of the suspects in Gusau.

Dalijan said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations supported by information obtained from individuals allegedly embedded within various criminal camps.

Among those paraded was 20-year-old Abubakar Malan Ori, who reportedly confessed to spending several months in the camp of notorious bandit kingpin Kachalla Gwaska.

According to the CPG, Ori participated in criminal operations across Zamfara, Kaduna and Niger states, as well as the Niger Republic. He also reportedly disclosed that more than ₦226 million was collected as ransom from multiple abductions.

Also paraded were Mamman Haruna and Aliyu Lawali, who allegedly provided information about their involvement in cattle rustling and attacks carried out alongside other notorious bandit leaders.

CPG Arrests Alleged Bandit Doctor

In a major development, the CPG also arrested Ibrahim Mafindi Titus, an alleged bandit doctor accused of treating wounded members of criminal groups.

The CPG said Titus treated wounded insurgents using medical supplies sourced internationally.

Other suspects paraded included alleged informants, logistics suppliers, drug merchants and an impersonator.

The impersonator, identified as Mustapha Muhammed, was accused of allegedly posing as a legal practitioner and extorting money from the relative of a detainee outside the CPG headquarters.

The arrests, according to the CPG, are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the networks supporting banditry and other criminal activities in Zamfara State.
