The new Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Samuel Erale, has assumed office with a firm pledge to reboot crime-fighting operations and make the state unsafe for criminals.

In his inaugural press briefing on September 1, 2026, the 25th commissioner of police in the state, declared that the safety of lives and property is now the command’s “priority” and promised to deploy “intelligence-driven” and “technology-enabled” strategies to tackle insecurity .
Erale, who took over from Yemi Oyeniyi, presented a comprehensive agenda anchored on discipline, community policing, and enhanced synergy with sister security agencies.
Emphasising a shift from reactive to proactive policing, he stated that the command would adopt a “zero tolerance for corruption, extortion and ethical misconduct” and enforce strict adherence to police rules and regulations .

The new police boss, who brings over three decades of experience including service on a UN peacekeeping mission in Kosovo and 14 years in the Police Mobile Force, outlined a clear vision for the economic hub.
He highlighted that Delta State, being critical to the Niger Delta sub-region, requires a “strong and effective security architecture,” and committed to an “intelligence-led and proactive policing aimed at preventing crime before it occurs” .
Key elements of his strategy include rebooting crime-fighting methodology through a review of current operations and leveraging data analysis to identify crime trends.
He also stressed the restoration of public trust through professionalism and fairness, urging residents to support the police by providing timely and credible information .
“I am fully aware of the responsibility that comes with this office,” Erale stated. “Our duty is to address these challenges and maintain peace and order across the state.”
He commended the efforts of his predecessor and called on officers of the command to align with his mission statement to ensure Delta State remains safe for residents and visitors alike.
