Obi Stuns Nigerians With Fresh Take On Tinubu’s Presidency, Says “God Wanted Him There”

Peter Obi has sparked another round of political debate after saying he believes God deliberately allowed Bola Tinubu to become Nigeria’s president, despite his continued claim that he won the 2023 presidential election.

Obi, who is preparing for another presidential contest in 2027 under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), made the revelation while reflecting on the outcome of the 2023 election and the political events that followed.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate maintained that he won the 2023 election but was not declared the winner.

“I won in 2023 and I was not declared winner. I’m happy that Tinubu became the president,” Obi said.

The comment has attracted attention because Obi has consistently challenged the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, in which the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Tinubu the winner.

Obi and his supporters rejected the result and pursued legal challenges, but the Presidential Election Petition Court and the Supreme Court ultimately upheld Tinubu’s victory.

Despite this, Obi said he believes there was a greater reason behind Tinubu’s emergence.

“God designed it that Buhari will be president and that after him Tinubu would come,” he stated.

He also suggested that the current situation in Nigeria could ultimately expose those responsible for damaging the country’s institutions.

“God wanted to show that he’s God. That’s why what is happening now is happening so that those destroying the system will be exposed. He wanted to open the eyes of Nigerians,” Obi said.

The statement has divided opinion online, with some Nigerians interpreting Obi’s comments as an expression of his belief in divine timing, while others have questioned his continued assertion that he won the election.

One X user, @HAHayatu, criticised Obi over the claim, writing: “The biggest deluded politician in Nigeria is Peter Obi for saying he won 2023.”

Another post by @Dee_9889 highlighted Obi’s remarks about the 2023 election and his belief that Tinubu’s emergence was part of God’s plan.

The renewed debate comes as Obi prepares for the 2027 presidential race.

His return to the presidential contest means his interpretation of the 2023 election is likely to remain a major part of political discussions, particularly as opposition politicians seek to challenge Tinubu at the polls.

For Obi, however, his latest comments suggest that his disagreement with the 2023 election outcome does not necessarily mean he views Tinubu’s presidency as outside God’s plan.

As the 2027 race gathers momentum, the former Anambra State governor’s latest revelation is certain to provide fresh ammunition for both his supporters and critics.
