Saltiana Aderibigbe, sister of Nigerian music star Ayra Starr and popularly known as Salt, has stirred social media reactions after sharing her views on dating a man who is financially less successful than her.

Salt made the remarks during an appearance on the Wahala_Podcast, where she discussed how differences in wealth could affect the dynamics between romantic partners.

Key Highlights

  • Salt, sister of Ayra Starr, sparked reactions over her views on dating less-wealthy men.
  • She said she would “control” a man who earns less than her because of her financial position.
  • Salt maintained that a less wealthy partner should still provide for her.
  • She said she might keep her wealth private from such a partner.
  • Her comments triggered debate over money, control and power dynamics in relationships.

Speaking about the possibility of dating a man who earns less than she does, Salt admitted that she would likely have more control in the relationship because of her financial position.

She said her self-awareness had made her recognise how she might behave in such a situation.

“If I date a man who I am richer than, I will definitely control him. I know myself, I’m very self-aware, I will control you,” she said.

Salt, however, maintained that being wealthier than her partner would not change her expectation that he should provide for her.

She also suggested that she would rather keep the full extent of her wealth private from such a partner.

“Even though if I’m richer than him, he will still be providing, and I wouldn’t let him know I have a lot of money. He will be fine,” she added.

Her comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with social media users debating whether differences in financial power can influence control, decision-making and expectations in relationships.

The discussion has also raised questions about financial transparency between romantic partners, particularly where one person earns significantly more than the other.

While opinions differ on how couples should handle income and wealth disparities, Salt’s remarks appear to reflect her personal expectations regarding money, provision and relationship roles.

The podcast appearance has consequently added to the growing online conversation about financial compatibility and power dynamics in modern relationships.
