The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Ifeanyi Odii, has declared that he would not be tired untill the state is liberated from bad governance.

He promised to tackle poverty, improve healthcare, education, and communal crises if elected governor.

Odii made the promises on Thursday, at his country home while addressing PDP leaders and supporters who gathered to welcome him to the state.

The governorship hopeful said his decision to contest the election is driven by his desire to bring about what he described as meaningful transformation in the state, insisting that he has spent years using his personal resources to support people before deciding to enter politics.

He said he would campaign on his record as a private citizen, challenging other aspirants to show what they have done for the people before seeking public office.

“My campaign slogan is: ‘Show me what you’ve done. I will show you what I’ve done,’” Odii said.

He said anyone who has been unable to demonstrate love for the people, assist the needy, pay hospital bills, support children’s education, provide housing or help people establish businesses as a private citizen would not have what it takes to govern the state.

Odii, who described himself as a humanist and activist, said his administration would prioritise good governance and programmes that directly improve the living conditions of the people rather than what he called white-elephant projects.

According to him, his government would focus on education, primary healthcare, agriculture, security and the welfare of civil servants.

“We want good governance. We want our children to have access to good education. We want our primary healthcare to work. We want our peasant farmers to be able to go back to the farm,” he said.

He also promised to provide access roads to farms to enable farmers to transport their produce and expand agricultural activities.

“I will not embark on a white-elephant project. I won’t build a flyover. I’m not going to build airports,” he said.

Odii further pledged to make poverty reduction a major priority of his administration, giving Ebonyians a one-year benchmark by which, he said, they could judge his performance.

“Give me one year,” he said, challenging voters to hold him accountable if people from the state continued hawking or working as nannies, if communal land crises persisted or if civil servants were still struggling to pay their children’s school fees.

He also promised to address insecurity and communal conflicts, saying residents should no longer have to live under the threat of violence over land disputes.

The PDP candidate urged Ebonyians not to allow intimidation during the 2027 election, calling on voters to protect their votes after casting them.

He said the election would be different and urged the people to stand firm in exercising their franchise. “Do not allow any intimidation. If you vote, protect your vote. Do not allow any person to intimidate you,” Odii said.

He said the people had the opportunity to elect leaders who would leave a positive legacy for future generations, urging them to reject bad governance.

“Bad governance brings good governance? No. Good governance brings prosperity,” he said.

Odii also expressed appreciation to the PDP leaders and supporters who welcomed him to the state, saying the large crowd at the airport and reception touched him deeply.

He said he had initially returned to Ebonyi for the burial of a brother but was overwhelmed by the reception he received from supporters.
