Music executive Ubi Franklin has claimed that he has a technology capable of clearing blocked gutters and drainage channels across Lagos State to improve water flow and help tackle flooding.

Franklin made the claim while recounting his experience during a major flood in Lagos in 2018, which he said severely affected several parts of the state.
According to him, the flooding was intense, with vehicles submerged and residents reportedly spotting crocodiles in some flooded areas.
Franklin recalled that his office was also affected, despite his belief that the building was not located in a flood-prone area.
He said his Mercedes-Benz C300 was parked at the office when he returned and found that floodwater had risen above the bonnet.
The music executive added that he had initially left the area in his Prado but returned after seeing reports of the flooding on social media. He said the Prado was also affected, with floodwater reaching the engine level.
Franklin Blames Blocked Drainage for Flooding
Franklin said investigations conducted after workers returned to the area showed that some construction activities had blocked drainage channels, contributing to the flooding.
He argued that blocked gutters and drainage gullies could worsen flooding by restricting the movement of rainwater, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Speaking about a possible solution, Franklin claimed that he had technology that could help clear blocked drainage channels and restore the free flow of water across Lagos.
He specifically mentioned the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, saying he was willing to present the technology if the commissioner was interested.

“I have something that if Tokunbo is ready, the commissioner, I can sit with him and discuss it. And all the gullies in Lagos will be open. I have it, it’s a technology,” Franklin said.
He further claimed that the technology could open drainage channels across the state and improve the movement of floodwater.
“There’s a technology I have, right? That will open up all the gullies in Lagos and get free flow of water,” he added.
Franklin did not provide technical details about the technology or independent evidence of its effectiveness.
His comments come amid continuing concerns over flooding in Lagos and calls for improved drainage maintenance, proper urban planning and stronger flood-control measures.
The claim also comes as Lagos continues to face the challenge of managing stormwater runoff in densely populated areas, where blocked drains, rapid urban development and heavy rainfall can increase the risk of flooding.
