The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) will bring together prominent figures from sports, government and the media as its 2026 Triennial National Delegates Congress takes place in Kaduna from August 26 to 29.
Themed “Harnessing the Power of Sports and the Media for National Development, Youth Empowerment and Global Competitiveness,” the congress is expected to feature top sports administrators, policymakers, journalists and former SWAN leaders.
Among the invited dignitaries are National Sports Commission Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko; Director-General, Hon. Bukola Olopade; NIS Director-General, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu; NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau; NOC President, Engr. Habu Gumel; and Nigeria Volleyball Federation President, Engr. Musa Nimrod.
Also expected are Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen; Federal Character Commission Chairman, Hon. Ayo Omidiran; Senators Abdul Ningi and Shehu Sani; as well as several football association chairmen and other sports federation presidents.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 11am on Thursday, August 27, followed by sporting and recreational activities.

The association’s core business will take centre stage on Friday, August 28, with the Full Council meeting at 10am and the election and inauguration of new national officers at noon.
SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, said the congress would provide a platform for sports journalists nationwide to deliberate on professional and organisational issues while strengthening collaboration between the media and sports stakeholders.
The event will also feature awards and recognition for individuals who have contributed to the growth of sports and SWAN. The Federal Character Commission Chairperson, Hon. Ayo Omidiran, is expected to be invested as SWAN’s first Matron.
SWAN’s national secretariat and Kaduna chapter said arrangements have been concluded to host delegates and guests for the triennial gathering.
