The Special Adviser to the Projects Implementation and Monitoring Department (PIMD), Mrs Phoebe Williams-Bello, has commended Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for the ongoing Edo road projects across the state, describing the pace and quality of construction work as encouraging.

Key Highlights

  • PIMD praises Governor Monday Okpebholo over ongoing road construction across Edo State.
  • Department says contractors are still working despite challenges posed by the rainy season.
  • Adesuwa Flyover project reaches about 50 to 60 per cent completion.
  • Government advises contractors to prioritise concrete works during the wet season.
  • Projects inspected include Benin-Sapele Road rehabilitation, Ramat Park Flyover and Uhie Road construction.

Williams-Bello gave the commendation on Wednesday in Benin during the department’s quarterly inspection of major infrastructure projects being executed by the state government.

According to Williams-Bello, the governor had embarked on significant road construction projects less than two years into his administration, adding that the commitment to funding the projects had enabled contractors to remain active despite the rainy season.

“We are not yet two years in office, and the governor has embarked on massive and brave road construction projects in the state, and we are happy about it,” she said.

She explained that because Edo experiences heavy rainfall during the wet season, contractors had been advised to focus more on concrete-related activities to maintain progress and ensure quality delivery.

“Presently, we are in the rainy season, and Edo has a lot of rainy weather, if not more than the dry season, and contractors are still on sites. Why? Because the governor is funding the projects,” Williams-Bello stated.

The PIMD adviser added that contractors working on projects where pavement stages had not been reached were encouraged to carry out palliative measures to reduce hardship for road users.

She expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work observed during the inspection tour.

Adesuwa Flyover Project Nears Completion

Speaking on the Adesuwa Flyover project, the Technical Officer in charge, Mr Shola Adegboye, said the construction team was using the rainy season to concentrate on concrete works ahead of the dry season.

Adegboye said the project was progressing steadily, with work currently focused on pile caps, retaining walls and piers.

“We are taking advantage of the rainy season to focus on the concrete works so that by the time the dry season sets in, our concrete is already up, and then we can do our filling and the project begins to take shape,” he said.

He disclosed that the project was approaching 60 per cent completion and remained within the agreed timeline.

An engineer from the Edo State Ministry of Works, Mr Theophilous Obasuyi, also confirmed that the Adesuwa Flyover had reached about 50 per cent completion, adding that the project was progressing according to schedule.

Other Road Projects Inspected

Engineer handling the Uhie 4.7-kilometre road project, Mr Mohamed Fathy, assured that the project would be delivered within the stipulated timeframe.

The inspection team visited several ongoing projects across Edo State, including the Adesuwa Flyover, rehabilitation of the Benin-Sapele Road, Benin-Sapele Water Storm Project, Evbukhu Road construction, Old Road construction, Ramat Park Flyover and Oghgeghe Road project.

The PIMD inspection is part of efforts by the Edo State Government to monitor infrastructure projects and ensure compliance with approved standards and timelines.
