Kano Building Collapse: 16 Rescued Alive, Three Found Unconscious

Sixteen people were rescued alive while three others were found unconscious after a residential building collapsed in Kano State on Saturday. The incident occurred at Dan Dishe, Kwanar Yashi, in Fagge Local Government Area of the state.

Firefighters handed the rescued victims over to a family member for further attention.

 

The Kano State Fire Service disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

 

Abdullahi explained that the incident occurred at about 4:32am when the Fire Service Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from one of its personnel, Aminu Sani Warure, reporting the building collapse.

 

According to the statement, firefighters from the service headquarters were immediately mobilised to the scene, where they discovered that a residential building measuring about 20 by 30 feet had collapsed.

 

The service said the incident affected 19 people, comprising 16 victims who were rescued alive and three others who were rescued unconscious.

Those rescued alive included Al-Mustapha Yusuf, 15; Khadija Yusuf, seven; Ummusalama Yusuf, 10; Madina Yusuf, six; Hafsat Yusuf, nine; and 11 other persons whose identities were not immediately ascertained.

 

The three victims rescued unconscious were identified as Affan Yusuf, five; Hassana Yusuf, seven; and Ummulkursum Yusuf, a nine-month-old baby.

 

The Kano State Fire Service said all the victims were handed over to Usman Ibrahim, identified as the brother of their father, for further necessary attention.

 

The service added that the cause of the Kano building collapse was still under investigation.

Fire Service Warns Residents

The Fire Service urged residents to observe necessary safety precautions, particularly during the rainy season, to prevent building collapses and other related emergencies.

 

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, also assured residents of the service’s continued readiness to respond promptly to emergencies across the state.

 

Authorities are expected to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the building collapse and determine what may have caused the structure to fail.
