The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Yoruba Nollywood actress and producer, Temitope “Tope” Osoba at the age of 40.
Osoba died barely a year after she made an emotional return to acting following her battle with breast cancer, a journey she had publicly shared to encourage others facing similar health challenges.
The actress had previously revealed that she discovered a lump during a self-examination, prompting her to seek medical attention.
She subsequently underwent surgery and appealed for financial assistance to support her further treatment.
Follow-up tests later showed that the cancer had not spread, and Osoba was declared cancer-free. She eventually returned to acting in 2025, describing her recovery as a major turning point in her life.
At the time, she said she was emerging stronger and more resilient and was determined to use her experience to inspire others.
Known for her appearances in Yoruba films such as Ile Owo, Omo Iya Kan and Gucci Girls, Osoba also used her public platform to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourage people facing similar health struggles.
Her return to the screen had been celebrated by fans and colleagues, particularly because of the resilience she demonstrated throughout her cancer journey.
