Arsenal are increasingly confident of completing the signing of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes this summer, with the Brazil international reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League champions.

Multiple sources indicate that the 28-year-old midfielder has made his desire to join Arsenal clear, while the Gunners believe a deal can be reached in the coming days.

Guimaraes has been a long-standing target for Arsenal throughout the summer, having established himself as one of Newcastle’s most influential players since arriving from Lyon in 2022.

He has made 195 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 31 goals, and has also earned 48 caps for Brazil.

Arsenal previously submitted a bid worth around £70 million for the midfielder, but Newcastle are expected to demand an improved offer before considering his departure.

Although reports suggest Arsenal could eventually put forward a package worth up to £80 million, sources indicate that a fresh formal proposal has yet to be submitted.

Newcastle have also maintained that no official club-to-club negotiations have taken place over Guimaraes’ potential move to north London.

Despite the lack of formal talks, Arsenal remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached soon.

The midfielder is expected to return to Newcastle training in the coming days, potentially adding urgency to the transfer negotiations.

Guimaraes’ possible departure would represent another major blow to Newcastle, who have already seen several important figures leave the club.

Sandro Tonali has moved to Tottenham, while Anthony Gordon has joined Barcelona, further increasing the pressure on Newcastle to retain their remaining key players.

The situation comes at a turbulent time for the club following the departure of manager Eddie Howe after five years in charge.

Howe left his position on Thursday, with Matthias Jaissle, the manager of Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, reportedly expected to take over.

Arsenal had also explored a deal for Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers this summer but declined the opportunity to match Chelsea’s £117 million offer after valuing the England international at around £80 million.

The Gunners have now turned their attention firmly towards strengthening their midfield, with Guimaraes emerging as a major target.

Should Arsenal succeed, the Brazil star would add further quality, experience and leadership to a squad preparing to defend its Premier League title.

For Newcastle, however, losing their captain alongside Tonali and Gordon would leave the club facing a significant rebuilding challenge ahead of the new season.
