The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has postponed its 2026 elective congress by one day, with the exercise now scheduled to hold on Sunday, September 27, instead of Saturday, September 26, in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The decision was approved during an extraordinary virtual general assembly held on Wednesday, after NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, explained that the adjustment is necessary to accommodate the Super Eagles’ opening qualifier for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to Gusau, the Super Eagles will face Madagascar on Friday, September 25, following consultations with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The fixture would make it difficult for several election contestants and football officials expected to be at the match to arrive in Lafia in time for the original Congress date.
The proposal to move the congress was unanimously adopted after it was presented to members and duly seconded during the virtual meeting.
The elective congress will usher in a new executive committee to oversee the affairs of Nigerian football for the next four years.
Meanwhile, defending champions Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will aim to secure an early place in the semi-finals of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship when they take on Togo’s Sparrow Hawks in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, on Thursday.
The seven-time African champions opened their title defence with an impressive 4-2 victory over Ghana, moving to the top of Group B on goal difference ahead of Burkina Faso, who defeated Togo 3-1 in their opening fixture.

Muiz Adeleke scored twice from the penalty spot against Ghana, while Olayemi Ayinla and Lucky Oraro also found the net in a convincing display by the Flying Eagles.
Head coach Abdu Maikaba knows another victory would guarantee Nigeria a place in the last four before Sunday’s decisive group clash against Burkina Faso.
For Togo, the encounter is a must-win after their opening defeat, with the Sparrow Hawks needing a positive result to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.
Nigeria is targeting not only another WAFU B title but also qualification for the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Ghana.
