Marvel Studios has officially announced that British actor David Jonsson will take on the mantle of Black Panther in the upcoming Black Panther 3, which is scheduled for release on December 15, 2028.

The announcement was made during Marvel’s Hall H panel at Comic-Con, where fans learned that Jonsson will portray Prince T’Challa II, the son of the late King T’Challa and Nakia.
The character was first introduced as a child in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and will now take center stage in the third installment as he comes of age and embraces his destiny.
Acclaimed filmmaker Ryan Coogler is returning to direct the movie, while Letitia Wright and Winston Duke will reprise their roles as Shuri and M’Baku, respectively.
Wright inherited the Black Panther mantle in Wakanda Forever following the death of Chadwick Boseman, who famously portrayed T’Challa in the 2018 blockbuster.
Boseman died from colon cancer in 2020 at the age of 43, prompting Marvel to reshape the franchise’s future while honoring his legacy.

The introduction of T’Challa II in the 2022 sequel provided a pathway for the continuation of the iconic character.
Jonsson, who recently gained recognition for his performances in Alien: Romulus and the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk, is expected to lead a new era for the Wakandan franchise.
The original Black Panther, released in 2018, became a global phenomenon, earning more than $1.3 billion at the box office and making history as the first superhero film to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
It won three Oscars, including Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Original Score.
Its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, grossed approximately $859 million worldwide and earned five Academy Award nominations, including a historic Best Supporting Actress nomination for Angela Bassett.
Marvel fans will also see Letitia Wright return as Black Panther before the third film, as she is set to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
