Fulham have won the 2021-22 Championship season to return to the Premier League after thrashing Luton Town 7-0 at Craven Cottage on Monday.
Fulham against Nottingham Forest, were unable to lift the trophy after they lost by a lone-goal at Craven Cottage but put up a surprising performance against six-placed Luton to finally ice their season’s blistering campaign.
The Cottagers opened the feast of goals through captain Thomas Cairney in 29 minutes and doubled the lead 10 minutes from defender Kenny Tete.
Serbia’s Aleksandar Mitrović scored a brace in the second half with Fábio Carvalho, Bobby Decordova-Reid, and Jean Seri firing the furnace that consumed The Hatters.
Consequently, Mitrovic on Monday, May 2, 2022, equalled the record of Portsmouth hero Guy Whittingham’s 42 championship goals in a season and surpassed it having scored two consecutive goals to take his tally to 43 for the season.
Reacting to the performance of Mitrovic in the romp, Fulham manager Marco Silva praised the record-breaking striker and affirmed that the accolade bestowed on him is well deserved.

“What a fantastic way to finish with a 7-0 with Mitrovic scoring the last goal and breaking the record is amazing,” Silva told Sky Sports in a post-match interview.
“He deserves it. He played a fantastic game as well, he’s a very good professional, a good lad. He enjoyed the moment, we all enjoy being with him and I just want him to keep working hard,” he added.
Fulham, returning to the Premier League after a successful 2021-22 campaign, makes it 28 times the London-based football club has featured in the English topflight league.
