Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their interest in Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa as manager Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his backline ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Gunners are in the market for an experienced central defender following uncertainty surrounding William Saliba’s fitness. The French international is facing a spell on the sidelines after aggravating a back injury during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, raising concerns that surgery could be required.
Konsa has emerged as one of Arsenal’s leading defensive targets after another impressive campaign with Aston Villa. The England international played a pivotal role in Villa’s UEFA Europa League triumph under Unai Emery and continued his fine form at the World Cup with a series of composed performances for the Three Lions.
According to reports, Arsenal have already made enquiries about the 28-year-old, but the two clubs remain far apart in their valuation of the defender.

The North London club are believed to value Konsa at between £30 million and £35 million, while Aston Villa consider him a key player worth around £60 million and are unwilling to lower their asking price.
Despite Villa’s firm stance, reports suggest Konsa would be interested in a move to the Emirates Stadium if the clubs can reach an agreement, although he understands Villa are reluctant to sanction his departure.
Villa view Konsa as one of Emery’s most trusted players and a cornerstone of their ambitions in both domestic and European competitions, making any deal difficult to complete.
If Arsenal fail to meet Villa’s valuation, the Gunners are expected to explore alternative defensive options before the transfer window closes.
