A father and his 15-year-old daughter have died after falling into an old dry well in yan-chibi village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Abubakar Abdullahi and his daughter, Firdausi Abubakar.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, the incident occurred on the evening of July 21, 2026.
He explained that preliminary investigations reveal that Firdausi accidentally slipped and fell into the well and in a desperate bid to save her, her father climbed in after her but became trapped, leading to the death of both individuals.
Yusif noted that the firefighters from the Tsanyawa branch office responded to a distress call shortly after the incident.

However, he regretted that severe darkness and hazardous conditions at the scene prevented the completion of the rescue operation that night.
“In the early hours of July 22, a specialized emergency rescue team was deployed from the fire service headquarters in Kano to support the operation.
“Rescuers successfully retrieved both victims from the well, but they were unconscious and later confirmed dead.
“Their bodies have since been handed over to the village head of of the area, Shamsu Sani, in Tsanyawa,” the spokesperson explained.
While extending condolences to the bereaved family, the Kano State Fire Service issued a strong warning to the public, advising residents against entering wells without proper safety and rescue equipment.
