Nigeria’s U-18 boys’ volleyball team on Wednesday made a winning start to its campaign at the 2026 CAVB U-18 African Volleyball Championship, defeating Morocco 3-0 after being drawn in a difficult Pool A alongside hosts Egypt, Morocco and Burundi.
The championship, taking place in Alexandria, Egypt, from July 21 to 30, features eight of Africa’s top youth teams competing for continental honours and valuable international experience.
Nigeria had been handed one of the tournament’s toughest groups, with host nation Egypt widely tipped as favourites on home soil.
However, the young Nigerian side showed determination and composure to overpower Morocco in straight sets, boosting its chances of reaching the knockout stage.
The victory gives Nigeria an early advantage in Pool A as the team prepares for its remaining group-stage matches against Burundi and hosts Egypt.

Pool B comprises Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Cameroon, with the top teams from both groups advancing to the knockout rounds.
Nigeria’s impressive opening performance highlights the country’s growing investment in youth volleyball development and provides confidence as the team seeks to challenge some of Africa’s strongest volleyball nations.
The 2026 CAVB U-18 African Volleyball Championship is expected to produce the continent’s next generation of stars, with eight nations battling for the coveted title in Alexandria.
Nigeria will now shift its focus to maintaining its winning momentum in the remaining group fixtures.
