The expectations of many of the people of Edo State as it relates to infrastructural development is hanging in the balance in the last few years. The Trumpet gathers that there has been widespread criticism of the current governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, especially his style of governance.

Those who are critical of the administration’s achievements in this regard are complaining that infrastructures like motorable roads, drainages, street lights, and a few others have not been given much attention.

For instance, some roads within the Benin City center axis are so bad that traversing them takes so much time in comparison to what was obtainable in the recent past.

Roads like the popular Ekenwan Road that leads to the Gelegele Seaport which the government has promised would commence operation soon and become a source of wealth creation to the people and the government has been under a state of disrepair for quite a while now leading people to ask what becomes of all the campaign promises of Governor Obaseki in the wake of the 2020 governorship poll.

Some critics of the administration’s pace of attending to the issue of putting a stop to the dying state of infrastructure in the state have a sizeable number.

Some of the acclaimed red roof schools that were in vogue during the administration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole are now living on past glories as they look weather-beaten, dilapidated and deathtrap of sorts.

The roofs of some of the schools that were just made mention of have been blown off. These schools have become eyesores that attract negative commentaries.

However, in his response to inquiries about the state of the state, the Publicity Secretary of the State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ruling party in the state, Chris Nehikhare, said: “It is always like this after an election. Expectations are always very high. It is a good thing for people to expect a lot from the government, especially one that so much is given to.

“You will also agree with me that this administration is the first in the history of the state that has a roadmap. It has a plan. You should also know that the promises the governor made during the campaign need cash backing.

“Meanwhile, the economy of the country is not the way that it should be or the way it used to be. The state government has been consistent in ensuring that the local economy does not fall into a deep recession.

“For instance, most of the road contracts that people are complaining about have been awarded and work is ongoing. But for the recent heavy rainfall which has been causing a setback in completion of the contracts,” he stated.
