Canadian rap superstar Drake has lost more than ₦2 billion (approximately $1.5 million) after his multimillion-dollar bet on Argentina to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup final ended in disappointment.
The Grammy-winning musician placed the wager through the betting platform Stake, backing the reigning world champions to defeat Spain in Sunday’s highly anticipated final.
If Argentina had successfully defended their title, Drake would have earned a payout of more than $5.1 million.
However, Spain claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory after extra time, securing their second FIFA World Cup title and handing the rapper another costly betting loss.
The outcome has once again fueled discussions about the so-called “Drake Curse,” a long-running internet theory suggesting that teams and athletes publicly backed by the Canadian star often suffer defeats.
The World Cup setback adds to a string of unsuccessful high-profile bets by Drake.
