The Chairman of the Dewayles Group of Companies, High Chief (Dr.) Victor Wayles Egukawhore has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bill establishing a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, describing the development as a landmark achievement that will transform healthcare delivery in Delta South Senatorial District.

Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Chief Joseph Onos Ejabulor, Egukawhore also commended the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, for sponsoring and facilitating the legislation that culminated in the establishment of the medical centre.

He described the project as a timely intervention that would expand access to quality healthcare services, create employment opportunities for medical professionals, and stimulate socio-economic development across Delta South and neighbouring communities.

According to him, the Federal Medical Centre will provide affordable and specialised healthcare services while reducing the burden on residents who currently travel long distances to access advanced medical treatment.

Egukawhore said the presidential assent reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerians through strategic investments in critical sectors, particularly healthcare.

He urged the management of the proposed institution to ensure that the facility is developed into a world-class medical centre equipped with modern technology, qualified personnel and efficient healthcare services capable of meeting the growing healthcare needs of the people.

President Tinubu signed the Federal Medical Centre, Oleh Establishment Bill into law on July 12, 2026, paving the way for the establishment of the first federal tertiary healthcare institution in Delta South Senatorial District.

The legislation, sponsored by Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, is expected to end decades of the district’s lack of a federal medical centre despite its strategic importance as an oil-producing region.

Reacting to the presidential assent, Senator Joel-Onowakpo described the development as a demonstration of purposeful representation and responsive governance.

“This achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished through purposeful representation, unity of purpose and responsive governance. We remain committed to attracting more transformative projects that will redefine the future of Delta South,” the senator said.

The Federal Medical Centre, Oleh Establishment Act adds to Senator Joel-Onowakpo’s legislative achievements, following President Tinubu’s earlier assent to the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko Establishment Act, another landmark legislation championed by the Delta South lawmaker.

Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, expressing optimism that the institution will improve healthcare delivery, strengthen medical training and research, and serve as a referral centre for communities across Delta South and the wider Niger Delta region.
