Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Freetown, Sierra Leone, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Shettima touched down at the Freetown International Airport on Sunday, Lungi, where he was received by Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh. Also on hand to welcome the Nigerian delegation were Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone Ambassador Ayo Luther-Ogbomode, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS Ambassador Olawale Emmanuel Awe, and officials of the Nigerian High Commission.
The summit, holding at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown, brings together Heads of State and Government from across West Africa alongside ministers, senior government officials, regional institutions, and business leaders.
Discussions at the high-level meeting are expected to focus on critical regional issues, including peace and security, democratic governance, economic cooperation, regional trade, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth across the ECOWAS bloc.

Leaders are also expected to deliberate on strategies to address political and security challenges confronting the region while strengthening efforts toward deeper regional integration and economic development.
The outcome of the summit is expected to produce key policy decisions and resolutions aimed at reinforcing ECOWAS’ role in promoting stability, economic prosperity, and cooperation among its member states.
