Gombe State Governor and Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Muhammadu Yahaya, has inaugurated a 25-member APC reconciliation committee to address internal disputes, strengthen party unity and prepare the ruling party for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the inauguration at the Government House in Gombe on Thursday, the governor said the APC’s objective is not only to retain all elective positions in the state, but also to secure no fewer than one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
He also expressed confidence that the party would produce the next governor of the state, win all six National Assembly seats and secure victory in all 24 state House of Assembly constituencies.
Governor Yahaya appealed to party members dissatisfied with the outcomes of recent APC congresses, primary elections and local government polls to embrace reconciliation in the interest of the party.
He explained that the committee was constituted following a series of political activities conducted by the APC in recent months, including congresses at various levels, governorship and legislative primaries, as well as the recently concluded local government and local council development area elections.
According to him, although the exercises were largely successful, some members and aspirants were understandably disappointed by the outcomes.
“Perfection belongs only to Almighty God. As human beings, we are bound to make mistakes in our daily dealings. It is therefore understandable that some decisions and outcomes arising from these political processes may not have gone down well with some of our members, particularly those who aspired for elective offices but were unsuccessful,” the governor said.
He said the reconciliation committee, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Manassah Jatau, was established to engage aggrieved members through dialogue aimed at rebuilding trust, promoting forgiveness and restoring party cohesion.
“We need to sheath our swords and embrace dialogue so that we can put our house in order as the 2027 general elections draw closer. Our strength lies in our unity, and together we must build a stronger and more formidable APC,” he added.
The governor urged the committee to carry out its assignment with fairness, sincerity and commitment, noting that its success would be critical to the party’s electoral prospects.
He also directed members to maintain confidentiality throughout the reconciliation process to prevent sensitive information from being exploited by political opponents.
The governor further empowered the committee to co-opt additional members where necessary and decentralize its operations across the state’s three senatorial districts to accelerate the reconciliation exercise.

The committee’s terms of reference include resolving internal party disputes, identifying and documenting grievances arising from recent political activities, engaging aggrieved members and stakeholders, mediating among contending groups, promoting dialogue and party unity, advising the State Working Committee on the reintegration of members, ensuring reconciled members align with the APC manifesto and the governor’s development agenda, and carrying out its assignment in accordance with the party’s constitution.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman and Deputy Governor, Manassah Jatau thanked the governor and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee, assuring that members would discharge their responsibilities diligently and engage all stakeholders with fairness and sincerity.
Earlier, the state APC Chairman, Mohammed Ndus, described the committee as credible and highly respected, expressing confidence that it would help reunite the party and consolidate its achievements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
