The 36 state governors have reaffirmed their commitment to working with the federal government, the World Bank and other development partners to ensure the successful implementation of the NG-CARES Additional Financing, SOLID and HOPE programmes aimed at strengthening governance, protecting vulnerable households and building human capital across the country.
The assurance was given on Thursday, by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, during the presidential launch of the programmes.
He was represented at the event by the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Speaking on behalf of the governors, AbdulRazaq described the initiatives as a significant milestone in translating President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda into tangible benefits for Nigerians.
He said the programmes were designed to strengthen governance, improve public service delivery, safeguard vulnerable households, develop human capital and enhance the resilience of states while supporting the country’s long-term development objectives.
According to him, the programmes are built on the conviction that economic reforms should create better opportunities for citizens, strengthen institutions, improve public services and promote shared prosperity.
He noted that the NG-CARES Additional Financing, SOLID and HOPE initiatives provide practical investments that will reinforce governance structures, expand social protection, build human capital and improve the ability of states to respond to economic and social challenges.
The NGF chairman also commended the World Bank for its continued partnership with Nigeria, saying the collaboration has extended beyond the federal government to support state governments in improving public financial management, expanding social protection programmes, boosting agricultural productivity and strengthening institutional systems for measuring development outcomes.
He described the NG-CARES programme as proof of what could be achieved when the federal government, state governments and development partners work together with a shared commitment to transparency, accountability and effective service delivery.
Governor AbdulRazaq stressed that the programmes go beyond launching projects, saying they are focused on building sustainable institutions capable of driving inclusive growth, improving governance and delivering lasting development.
He maintained that strengthening institutional foundations remains essential to improving service delivery, sustaining economic growth and enhancing the resilience of states in line with the aspirations of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
