  • Delta State Police arrested content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over allegations of rape.
  • Police said the 20-year-old woman travelled to Asaba after Ogbonna allegedly promised to train her in content creation.
  • The suspect allegedly raped and assaulted the woman in a hotel after her arrival.
  • The victim reportedly returned home traumatised, informed her parents about the incident, and later recorded a video detailing her alleged ordeal.
  • Police said the woman later ingested a poisonous substance in an apparent suicide attempt and died despite efforts to save her.

Police said the suspect, 40, was arrested following a petition alleging that the deceased travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after Ogbonna allegedly invited her under the guise of offering her training in content creation.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect allegedly took the woman to a hotel on her arrival in Asaba, where he reportedly raped and physically assaulted her.

The police said the victim returned home traumatised and narrated the alleged incident to her parents.

Edafe disclosed that before her death, the woman recorded a video in which she recounted her alleged ordeal and the emotional distress she suffered following the incident.

He said she later ingested a toxic substance in an apparent suicide attempt and died despite efforts to save her.

Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, directed for an immediate investigation into the allegations.

The police spokesman said police officers subsequently arrested Ogbonna, who allegedly made useful statements during preliminary interrogation.

“The investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case,” Edafe said.

Oyeniyi assured the deceased’s family and members of the public that the command would conduct a thorough, professional and impartial investigation.

He said no aspect of the allegations would be overlooked, adding that appropriate legal action would be taken in line with the law upon the conclusion of investigations.
