Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, the wife of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed reports claiming she has filed for divorce, describing the publication as false and misleading.
Reacting to the reports in a statement posted on her verified X account on Friday, Okwu-Kanu said she was compelled to address the speculation after unverified claims began circulating across social media.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I have not filed for divorce. The publication is entirely false and should be treated as misinformation,” she stated.
She expressed concern over the spread of what she described as fabricated stories about her family, urging media organisations and members of the public to verify information before publication.

Okwu-Kanu also advised the public to rely only on official statements issued directly by her or through her authorised representatives. She thanked those who reached out to confirm the reports before sharing them.
The couple have been married since 2009.
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed IPOB, remains in detention while his legal proceedings continue. His case is still before the courts following his conviction on terrorism-related charges by the Federal High Court in Abuja in November 2025, which his legal team has appealed.
