Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has continued to bring relief and renewed hope to vulnerable women across the state as 10,000 beneficiaries of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme began receiving their June 2026 monthly stipends.

Beneficiaries drawn from the 25 Local Government Areas of the state were said to be receiving alerts as of Friday, with many expressing appreciation to the Oborevwori administration for sustaining the intervention programme.

The scheme, designed to cushion the economic hardship faced by widows, has provided a critical lifeline to thousands of women grappling with the emotional trauma of losing their spouses and the financial uncertainty that often follows widowhood.

Speaking with journalists in Asaba, the State Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, Elder Isioma Okonta, commended Governor Oborevwori for what he described as exemplary and compassionate leadership.

Okonta disclosed that payment of the June 2026 stipends to the 10,000 verified widows enrolled in the first phase of the scheme had commenced, with funds already hitting beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

He said the Governor’s consistency in releasing the monthly stipends underscored the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and the welfare of vulnerable Deltans.

“The stipends for June 2026 have started hitting the accounts of the 10,000 verified widows enrolled in the first phase of the scheme. This is another demonstration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s compassion and unwavering commitment to the welfare of vulnerable citizens,” Okonta said.

The State Coordinator also commended widows’ monitors and Local Government Area coordinators for what he described as a thorough and successful verification exercise across the 25 councils.

He noted that the verification process had helped strengthen the credibility of the scheme and ensure that support reached genuine beneficiaries.

Okonta described the Governor’s consistency in funding the programme as “highly commendable,” stressing that the intervention had continued to put smiles on the faces of disadvantaged Deltans, particularly widows confronting emotional loss and economic hardship.

He added that the initiative remained a strong reflection of the Oborevwori administration’s people-centred approach to governance and commitment to ensuring that vulnerable citizens were not left behind.
