The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has commenced the laying of artificial grass on one of the new football pitches under construction at Package B, beside the NFF secretariat at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The project marks a major milestone as the FIFA-funded infrastructure project moves closer to completion.

An on-the-spot assessment by The Trumpet Sports, showed that work is progressing steadily, with the football pitch now about 80 percent completed.

Construction is also advancing on the players’ hostel and other supporting facilities within the complex.

The FIFA-funded project, officially launched in March 2025, is one of the NFF’s biggest infrastructure investments in recent years.

It includes the construction of a 68-room players’ hostel, comprising 62 single rooms, four suites and two executive suites.

The development also features two new training pitches—one natural grass and one synthetic—as well as the reconstruction of the existing synthetic pitch.

Additional facilities include dressing rooms for players and match officials, and a spectator stand with a seating capacity of 1,838.

The project is being financed through FIFA’s Forward 3.0 Programme, with an initial completion target of 24 months from the groundbreaking ceremony.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau had said the facility would provide a permanent training base for Nigeria’s national teams, reduce the federation’s spending on hotel accommodation and training venues, and allow more resources to be channelled into grassroots football development.

The new football complex is situated opposite the NFF Secretariat within Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium and is expected to become the federation’s technical hub once completed.

It is designed to provide modern accommodation and world-class training facilities for the Super Eagles, Super Falcons and other national teams.

With work on the artificial pitch now underway and construction continuing on the remaining facilities, the project represents a significant step towards strengthening football infrastructure in Nigeria and providing the country’s national teams with a permanent high-performance training base.
