Canadian rap superstar Drake has placed a massive $770,000 (more than ₦1 billion) bet on Canada to defeat South Africa in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 encounter.
The Grammy Award-winning musician revealed the high-stakes wager on his social media accounts on Saturday, expressing confidence that his home nation will progress to the Round of 16.
Drake explained that the bet was inspired by a light-hearted exchange with South African DJ and producer Black Coffee ahead of the knockout fixture.
“@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM. I had to raise my stakes,” Drake wrote.

The bet was placed through betting platform Stake, with the Canadian risking $770,000 for a potential return of $1,001,000 if Canada defeats South Africa.
The wager has sparked widespread reactions among football fans, with many debating whether Drake’s confidence will be rewarded or if South Africa’s Bafana Bafana can pull off one of the tournament’s biggest upsets.
Canada booked their place in the knockout stage after finishing second in Group B, while South Africa advanced as runners-up in Group A following a strong recovery from an opening-match defeat.
The winner of Sunday’s contest will secure a place in the Round of 16 and move a step closer to a historic first-ever FIFA World Cup quarter-final appearance.
