Nigerians have taken to social media to mock First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu with sarcastic appeals to patronise their newly established akara businesses, following her reported advice encouraging citizens to embrace small-scale enterprises.
The online satire, which has since gone viral, reflects growing frustration over the country’s economic hardship and rising cost of living.
In a post in Nigerian pidgin English that quickly attracted comments, a Facebook user identified as Asawanta wrote:
“First Lady of Nigeria, you said make we start akara business. We don’t start o. Five is ₦300 now. Na this one you want make I use buy the type of cars wey you dey drive? Abeg come buy.”
The post sparked a flood of witty responses from other Facebook users, who continued the joke.
Egbule Stella, simply appealed to the first lady, saying, “Tell her make she come buy.”

Dozman Felix Nnadizie questioned the practicality of everyone embracing the same business idea, writing: “She want everybody to become an akara seller.
“But the question now be: who go patronize each other if everybody dey sell akara?”
He added that he preferred the approach of former First Lady, Patience Jonathan.
Another commenter, Amos Mary, lamented in jest: “I don start my own too but no market. Wetin be the next step again?”
Akudinobi Otiteh blamed the situation on economic hardship, commenting: “Na poverty cause am, my brother. Na him make dem see us finish. But one day na one day.”
The exchanges, shared in a light-hearted tone, reflect how many Nigerians increasingly use humour and satire on social media to vent frustrations over the economy and soaring living costs.
