A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, is aiming to set a new Guinness World Record by completing a 144-hour Holy Bible reading marathon in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The record attempt with the theme: “144 Hours in the Word,” began on June 22 at Novotel, Port Harcourt, and is expected to end on July 2, subject to Guinness World Records verification and guidelines.

Having crossed the 100-hour milestone on Saturday, Habibat has entered the final stretch of the endurance challenge.

Videos shared on social media show her reading the Bible aloud from a lectern, while digital timers monitor the elapsed time.

Family members, church members and supporters have remained at the venue, offering encouragement throughout the marathon.

Organisers said the attempt is being conducted in line with Guinness World Records regulations, which require participants to read continuously aloud, with only limited breaks permitted for essential needs.

Habitat, a member of The Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, said the initiative was inspired by her faith and is intended to encourage people to study and engage more deeply with the Scriptures.

Her Senior Pastor, Andy Osakwe of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, described the marathon as more than a record attempt, saying it is a spiritual initiative focused on promoting the importance of God’s Word and inspiring believers.

The challenge has attracted significant attention on social media, adding to the growing number of endurance record attempts by Nigerians in recent years.

If officially recognised, Habibat’s feat will further strengthen Nigeria’s presence in Guinness World Records pursuits, following the achievement of Samson Ajao, who was recognised for completing the longest marathon reading aloud after reading continuously for 215 hours in 2024.
