The All Progressives Congress (APC) has swept all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the Gombe State local government council elections, securing a clean sweep across the state’s 11 local government areas and 13 Local Council Development Areas.

The elections, conducted by the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC), marked the first local council polls to include the 13 LCDAs established by the administration of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya through an Act of the Gombe State House of Assembly.

Announcing the results in Gombe, the Chairman of GOSIEC, Abdullahi Talasse, declared the APC winner of all 11 local government chairmanship seats, the 13 LCDA chairmanship seats, and all 240 councillorship positions.

Talasse explained that the APC was the only political party that fielded candidates in all the local government areas, LCDAs and councillorship wards, while other political parties contested only in selected areas based on their organisational strength and preparedness.

He noted that the establishment of the 13 LCDAs had significantly expanded the commission’s electoral responsibilities, while creating more opportunities for grassroots participation in governance.

According to him, the creation of the LCDAs has brought governance closer to the people, strengthened grassroots administration and expanded platforms for political inclusion and community development.

The GOSIEC chairman commended political parties, security agencies, election officials and voters for the peaceful conduct of the elections, describing the exercise as orderly and successful.

He also appreciated the chairman and members of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions (FOSIECON), election observers, civil society organisations and other stakeholders for monitoring the polls and contributing to their credibility.

Meanwhile, Governor Yahaya has congratulated the newly elected chairmen and councillors, describing their victory as a demonstration of the confidence reposed in them by the electorate.

The governor urged the elected officials to see their victory as a call to selfless service, stressing that the expectations of the people could only be met through transparent, accountable and people-oriented leadership.

He advised them to work closely with their communities, promote unity and inclusiveness, and remain committed to delivering democratic dividends at the grassroots irrespective of political, ethnic or religious differences.

Governor Yahaya assured the new council leaders of his administration’s support and pledged continued collaboration to accelerate grassroots development, expand access to infrastructure and social services, and improve the living standards of residents across the state.

He also commended GOSIEC, security agencies, political parties, election officials, observers and the people of Gombe State for the peaceful, orderly and credible conduct of the elections, describing the exercise as another milestone in the state’s democratic journey.
