The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected criminals, including two alleged kidnappers and two suspected armed robbers, in separate operations across the state.
Police also recovered a locally made pistol during one of the operations.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Thursday, describing them as part of ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities across the state.
According to Edafe, two suspects linked to an attempted robbery were arrested on June 23 following a report received by the police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects allegedly gained unlawful access to a residential compound but fled after discovering that the occupants were present.
The vigilance of residents, however, led to the arrest of the suspect and an accomplice, who were subsequently handed over to the police.
Acting on intelligence gathered during preliminary investigations, operatives of the Ugborikoko Police Division searched the suspects’ residence and recovered a locally made pistol hidden inside a wardrobe.
“The suspects are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine their involvement in other criminal activities,” Edafe said.
In a separate operation, operatives of the ‘A’ Division in Ughelli, working in collaboration with local vigilante members, arrested two suspected kidnappers in connection with a failed abduction attempt reported on June 19.
The suspects were identified as Iliyasu Hassan, 16, and Idris Abdulkarim, 32.

Edafe said the suspects were apprehended on June 22 at about 8:30 p.m. after emerging from a nearby forest to purchase food and medication.
According to him, one of the victims of an earlier kidnapping incident later identified the suspects as members of the gang responsible for the attack.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The police spokesperson added that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang and recover weapons used in their operations.
Commending residents for their vigilance and cooperation, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining the fight against criminality across the state.
