Nigerian rapper and singer YCee has opened up about his mental health journey, revealing that he was diagnosed with a mental health condition in 2020.

  3. YCee said he spent several months in London receiving treatment, including about three months of hospitalisation.
  4. He described his recovery journey as challenging, involving medication, therapy sessions, and continued treatment after returning to Nigeria.
  5. Despite experiencing periods of setbacks and emotional struggles, YCee said he is now stable and in a much better place following professional care and support.

The “Omo Alhaji” hitmaker disclosed this during an appearance on the Afropolitan podcast, explaining that the diagnosis contributed to his temporary withdrawal from the music scene.

YCee said he spent months in London receiving care, including about three months of hospitalisation, before returning to Nigeria to continue treatment and therapy.

He described the period as one of the most difficult phases of his life, noting that he underwent medication, hospital stays, and therapy sessions as part of his recovery.

“In 2020, I got diagnosed with a mental health condition during the lockdown… I was in and out of the hospital for about three months,” he said.

The rapper added that adjusting to mental health care in Nigeria was a long process, with moments of improvement and setbacks.

“It was up and down. Sometimes it looks good, and sometimes it just gets really dark,” he said.

YCee, however, stated that he is now stable and in a much better place after receiving professional support and care.
