The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ahmed Sanusi, has issued divisional police officers, under the Metro Area Command a two-week ultimatum to stamp out robbery and other criminal activities within the Abuja city centre.
The police chief issued the directive on Friday, during a security review meeting with the 17 DPOs under the Metro Area Command, where he assessed the prevailing security situation and outlined fresh operational measures to tackle emerging threats.
Sanusi expressed concern over a number of security challenges affecting residents and motorists in the capital city, including traffic robberies, vehicle snatching at gunpoint, the activities of one-chance syndicates, motorists driving against traffic, illegal operations of commercial motorcyclists on major roads, vandalism of public and private property, indiscriminate parking on highways and worsening traffic congestion.
He directed the DPOs to bring the identified crimes under control within two weeks, warning that failure to achieve the target would attract sanctions.
The police commissioner also instructed all DPOs and the area commander in charge of the Metro Area Command to concentrate their efforts on securing the city centre, noting that he would personally oversee security operations in the suburbs.
According to him, negligence and laxity in the discharge of duties would not be tolerated.

He specifically charged the area commander who supervises the divisional police officers, to provide effective leadership and ensure strict compliance with the directives issued during the meeting.
The FCT Police Command appealed to residents to support ongoing security operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command urged members of the public to report suspicious activities through the nearest police division or its emergency lines.
