Spanish giants Real Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of French international defender Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Liverpool.

The 27-year-old centre-back has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2030, becoming the latest addition to José Mourinho’s squad ahead of the new season.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the club said: “Real Madrid CF and Ibrahima Konate have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030.”
Konate had long been on Real Madrid’s shortlist, and with his Liverpool deal coming to an end this summer, club president Florentino Pérez moved swiftly to secure the France international without paying a transfer fee.

The signing comes as Madrid continue to strengthen their defensive options following David Alaba’s departure, Antonio Rüdiger’s advancing age, and Éder Militão’s recent injury concerns.
Konate arrives with extensive experience at the highest level, having previously featured for RB Leipzig and Liverpool, where he won several major trophies and established himself as one of Europe’s top central defenders.
The announcement follows Real Madrid’s recent transfer activity, including the arrivals of Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva, as well as the contract renewal of veteran defender Antonio Rüdiger.
Konate is expected to join Mourinho’s squad after completing his post-season commitments and will be available for the club’s preparations ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
