The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the party’s candidate for the Delta North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The confirmation came following a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) held at the party’s secretariat in Asaba, the first such meeting since the conclusion of the party’s primary elections.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Valentine Onojeghuo, said the senatorial primary election was conducted by a committee constituted by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), stressing that the process was duly conducted and that Okowa emerged victorious.
Responding to questions on the outcome of the primary election, Onojeghuo maintained that the party remained satisfied with the process and outcome, noting that the decision was in line with the report submitted by the committee appointed by the national leadership of the party.
He disclosed that the State Working Committee had also resolved to embark on a reconciliation process aimed at uniting members and addressing grievances arising from the recently concluded primaries.
According to him, the party recognizes the need to carry every stakeholder along and is committed to fostering unity among members in order to strengthen its chances of victory in the 2027 general elections.
“The party is focused on reconciliation and consolidation. We want all members, irrespective of their positions during the primaries, to work together in the overall interest of the APC and the development of Delta State,” he said.

The APC also commended the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what it described as proactive measures taken to address concerns arising from the recent Warri delineation issues and for ensuring a peaceful resolution of the matter.
The party expressed satisfaction with efforts by relevant stakeholders and government authorities to prevent the situation from escalating, stressing the need for continued dialogue and peaceful engagement among the affected communities.
On the newly approved constituencies in the state, Onojeghuo said the APC was fully prepared to conduct primary elections for the affected constituencies, assuring members and aspirants that the party would adhere strictly to its constitution and guidelines in the process.
The meeting, attended by members of the State Working Committee and other party officials, reviewed developments within the party and mapped out strategies for reconciliation, party unity and electoral preparedness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
