The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Zakari Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Asamu of Olayinka, Oba Salman Olatunji Aweda, who reportedly died in the custody of his abductors despite efforts by his family and community to secure his release.
Key Highlights:
In a condolence message issued on behalf of his media team, Mohammed described the monarch’s death as a devastating loss to the people of Olayinka, the traditional institution and the entire Kwara State.
The ADC candidate said reports indicated that ransom and other demands made by the kidnappers had been met, yet the traditional ruler did not regain his freedom alive.
He noted that Olayinka, a community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has been thrown into mourning following the tragic development.
Mohammed extended his condolences to the royal family, community leaders, youths, women and all indigenes of Olayinka, saying he shared in their grief during the difficult period.

According to him, the incident highlights the worsening security situation in many parts of the country and raises concerns about the ability of government at all levels to protect lives and property.
He described it as unacceptable that a traditional ruler could be abducted from his palace, held for weeks and eventually die in captivity despite efforts by his subjects and well-wishers to secure his release.
Mohammed called on both the Federal Government and the Kwara State Government to take more decisive steps to tackle kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes threatening communities across the country.
“The lives of our people must never be treated as expendable,” he stated.
He prayed for the repose of the monarch’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give his family, subjects and the people of Olayinka the strength to bear the loss.
The ADC candidate also prayed for peace, unity and protection for the community against further tragedies.
