The service of songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has continued to generate conversations online after several controversies surrounded the emotional gathering, ranging from criticism over the programme’s activities to reports of stolen phones, celebrity fashion debates and a revelation from his wife.

Key Highlights:

  • Alex Ekubo’s service of songs sparked online controversy.
  • Daddy Freeze criticised the worship style at the event.
  • BamBam and others reportedly had phones stolen.
  • Stan Nze condemned the theft incident.
  • Fashion and tributes also fueled social media debate.

The tribute event, which brought together colleagues, friends and loved ones of the late actor, was attended by several personalities in the entertainment industry who gathered to celebrate Ekubo’s life, legacy and contributions to Nollywood. The ceremony featured tributes, worship sessions and emotional moments as guests remembered the actor.

However, the peaceful atmosphere was later overshadowed by a series of controversies that dominated social media discussions.

Daddy Freeze Criticises Worship Session

Media personality Daddy Freeze sparked debate after expressing dissatisfaction with parts of the service of songs. He questioned the style of the worship session, stating his opinion that the event appeared to take on the feel of a concert rather than a traditional memorial gathering.

His comments, especially about the performance by gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, drew criticism from some fans and industry colleagues who felt the occasion was meant to honour Ekubo’s wishes and celebrate his life.

Reacting to the remarks, actor Mofe Duncan defended the organisers, stating that the event was not about personal opinions but about celebrating Alex Ekubo. Duncan explained that the gathering was a night of tributes and worship because those close to the late actor knew how much he loved God and music.

He also questioned Daddy Freeze’s decision to publicly criticise the event, pointing out that Freeze attended the all-white-themed occasion wearing black.

Daddy Freeze later explained that he wore black because he considered the gathering a mourning event and said he did not notice the dress code stated on the invitation.

BamBam’s Missing Phone Incident

Another major talking point from the event was the reported theft of phones belonging to some attendees. Reality TV star and actress BamBam revealed that her phone went missing during the service of songs.

After the event, she discovered that the device was no longer with her and expressed sadness over losing personal information, including contacts, pictures and videos that had not been backed up.

A viral video earlier caused speculation that her personal assistant may have been involved, but BamBam cleared the air, explaining that the person seen handling her bag was her assistant and not the person responsible for the missing phone. She urged people to stop accusing her assistant.

According to reports, other guests, including friends and a relative of the late actor, also lost their phones during the gathering.

Stan Nze Reacts to Phone Theft

Actor Stan Nze, who hosted the event, also reacted strongly to the incident, revealing that several phones were reportedly stolen at the ceremony.

He expressed disappointment that anyone could attend a gathering meant to mourn a loved one and choose to steal from guests.

The actor described the situation as disturbing and called for more reflection on values, respect and personal responsibility.

Nancy Isime’s Outfit Sparks Debate

Amid the emotional tributes and controversies, actress and TV host Nancy Isime’s outfit at the event also became a subject of discussion online.

While many praised her appearance and elegance in her all-white outfit, some social media users debated whether celebrity fashion choices should become a major talking point at a memorial event.

Alex Ekubo’s Wife Makes Revelation

Adding to the emotional conversations surrounding the late actor, Alex Ekubo’s wife also shared a heartfelt revelation about their relationship and his final moments.

She described the late actor as someone who had a strong impact on the lives of people around him, revealing personal memories that showed his kindness, generosity and the special bond they shared.

Her words moved many fans and colleagues, with several people taking to social media to express sympathy and honour Ekubo’s memory.

The revelation further shifted attention back to the actor’s life, his personality and the relationships he built before his passing.

Despite the controversies surrounding the service of songs, many fans and colleagues continue to remember Alexx Ekubo for his contributions to Nollywood, his personality and the legacy he left behind.

The debates surrounding the ceremony have also opened conversations about grief, public tributes, celebrity culture and the need to respect memorial occasions.
