American tennis starlet Robin Montgomery has captured the first WTA title of her career after being crowned champion of the 2026 Libéma Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

Key Highlights:

  • Robin Montgomery won her first WTA singles title at the Libéma Open.
  • She was crowned champion after Barbora Krejcikova withdrew from the final.
  • Montgomery reached the final with impressive wins over top opponents.
  • The American started the tournament ranked No. 484 in the world.
  • The title marks a major breakthrough in her professional career.

The 21-year-old was scheduled to face defending champion and former Wimbledon winner Barbora Krejcikova in Sunday’s final.

However, the Czech player withdrew from the match due to an upper respiratory illness, handing Montgomery the WTA 250 title by walkover.

Despite the unusual conclusion to the tournament, Montgomery enjoyed an impressive week on the grass courts of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, producing a series of strong performances to reach her maiden WTA final.

Ranked 484th in the world at the start of the tournament, Montgomery became one of the lowest-ranked players ever to win a WTA singles title, marking a significant milestone in her young career.

The Washington, D.C.-born left-hander turned professional in 2019 and has long been regarded as one of American tennis’ brightest prospects.

Her breakthrough came in 2021, when she won both the girls’ singles and doubles titles at the US Open.

On her route to the title, Montgomery recorded notable victories over experienced campaigners Daria Kasatkina and Ajla Tomljanovic.

Kasatkina is a former Top 10 player and Wimbledon quarterfinalist, while Tomljanovic has reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals twice and also advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Open during her career.

Montgomery has also enjoyed success in doubles this season.

Earlier this year, she partnered fellow American star Coco Gauff at the Madrid Open, where the pair advanced to the Round of 16.

The triumph in the Netherlands is expected to provide a major boost to Montgomery’s ranking and confidence as she prepares for the upcoming grass-court season and Wimbledon Championships.

The victory represents a major breakthrough for the young American as she continues her rise on the WTA Tour.
