“No Democracy Without Security” — Reaction As Falana, Falz, Others Join Lagos #EndBadGovernance Protest

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), alongside his son and Nigerian musician Falz, joined protesters in Lagos on Friday as citizens took to the streets to demand urgent action over insecurity, economic hardship, and governance concerns.

The protesters gathered around the Ikeja Underbridge, carrying placards with messages including “No Democracy Without Security,” “End Insecurity and Kidnapping,” “End Bad Governance,” and “Free All Abducted Children, Teachers, and Farmers.”

The demonstration, held to mark Democracy Day, sparked widespread reactions on X, with many Nigerians praising the participation of public figures and calling on authorities to address the growing concerns over safety and livelihoods.

@AishaYesufu commented, “Democracy is meaningless if citizens cannot sleep, travel, or farm without fear. Security is the government’s top responsibility.”

@YemieFash said, “Seeing Falana and Falz protesting shows that Nigerians’ cries cannot be ignored. The people are demanding accountability.”

@DanielRegha stated that “Protests are a constitutional right. Leaders must listen and address the issues affecting citizens’ safety and well-being.”

@Omojuwa “June 12 reminds us that democracy belongs to the people. Leaders must remember who they serve.”

@renoomokri “In a democracy, peaceful expression is essential, but lasting solutions require ongoing dialogue and responsible leadership.”

Other users stressed that Nigerians are seeking more than promises, demanding improved security, job opportunities, and a safer environment for families.

The protest comes amid continued public concerns over rising cases of kidnapping, attacks on communities, and insecurity across parts of the country, with citizens urging the government to take stronger measures.
