Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, expressing optimism that the country’s democratic journey will continue to deliver greater prosperity, unity and sustainable development for all citizens. The governor’s message, in which Oborevwori Hails Nigerians, underscored the importance of democratic governance in shaping Nigeria’s future.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori commended Nigerians for their unwavering dedication to democratic values despite the social and economic challenges confronting the nation.

The governor described June 12 as a historic milestone that reflects the resilience, courage and determination of Nigerians in their quest for democratic governance. He noted that the sacrifices made by pro-democracy heroes and activists remain a vital part of the country’s democratic heritage and should never be forgotten.

According to him, Democracy Day provides an opportunity for citizens and leaders to reflect on the nation’s progress, strengthen democratic institutions and recommit themselves to building a more united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

Oborevwori stressed that democracy remains the most effective form of government because it guarantees citizens the right to participate in governance while promoting accountability, transparency and adherence to the rule of law.

He urged Nigerians to continue supporting democratic institutions at all levels and to embrace peace, tolerance and national unity as critical ingredients for sustainable national development.

The governor also expressed confidence in Nigeria’s future, stating that ongoing reforms and the commitment of leaders across the country would eventually produce positive outcomes for citizens.

“On this Democracy Day, I congratulate all Nigerians and commend their steadfast belief in democratic governance. We must remain hopeful and united as a nation. With collective effort, patriotism and commitment to national development, greater days are certainly ahead for our country,” he said.

Governor Oborevwori further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Delta State through people-oriented policies, infrastructure development and strategic programmes under the MORE Agenda.

He said the initiatives are designed to improve the welfare, living standards and economic opportunities available to Deltans while fostering inclusive growth across the state.

The governor also called on citizens to remain law-abiding and continue supporting government policies and programmes aimed at promoting peace, economic growth and sustainable development across Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.

As Nigeria marks another Democracy Day anniversary, Oborevwori Hails Nigerians for their resilience and patriotism, expressing confidence that the nation’s democratic journey will continue to pave the way for a brighter and more prosperous future.
