The Delta State Coordinator of the Tinubu Torchbearers Initiative (TTBI), Minnie Igbrude, has cautioned against allowing ethnic differences and disagreements arising from the ongoing ward delineation exercise to threaten the peace and stability of Delta State.

Key Highlights:

  • TTBI coordinator Minnie Igbrude urges Delta State residents to prioritize peace over ethnic differences.
  • She calls for dialogue and understanding amid tensions from the ward delineation exercise.
  • Igbrude praised Governor Oborevwori for promoting stakeholder engagement and harmony.
  • She highlighted the administration’s progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and rural development.
  • She stressed that unity and cooperation are essential for stability and sustainable development in Delta.

Igbrude, who spoke against the backdrop of growing concerns over the delineation process involving the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo ethnic nationalities, called on all stakeholders to embrace dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful engagement in resolving their differences.

She said Delta State has enjoyed decades of peaceful coexistence among its diverse ethnic groups and warned that no political or administrative issue should be allowed to undermine the unity and harmony that have been built over the years.

According to her, Deltans have lived together as neighbours, business partners and members of one family, stressing that the state’s diversity remains a major asset that should be preserved and strengthened.

The TTBI coordinator commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his proactive efforts in promoting peace and fostering dialogue among the affected communities, describing his intervention as timely and necessary.

She noted that the governor’s decision to engage critical stakeholders and encourage discussions among the various ethnic groups demonstrates responsible leadership and a genuine commitment to maintaining peace across the state.

“Ethnic differences should not become a source of conflict or instability. We must continue to see ourselves as one people with a common destiny.

“Dialogue remains the most effective way to address concerns and strengthen understanding among our communities,” she stated.

Igbrude warned that communal conflicts often result in loss of lives, destruction of property and disruption of economic activities, adding that such consequences would only hinder the state’s development aspirations.

Beyond the peace initiative, she lauded Governor Oborevwori’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare and rural development, saying the administration’s MORE Agenda has continued to deliver visible projects across the three senatorial districts of the state.

She pointed to ongoing road and bridge projects, improvements in educational facilities and investments in healthcare services as evidence of the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and improved living standards for citizens.

While acknowledging existing challenges in the power sector, Igbrude expressed confidence in the governor’s resolve to work with relevant stakeholders to improve electricity supply and create a more enabling environment for economic growth.

She further appealed to political leaders, community stakeholders and individuals with aspirations ahead of the 2027 general elections to place the overall interest of Delta State above personal ambitions and support initiatives that promote peace, unity and development.

According to her, continued cooperation among the various ethnic nationalities and support for the governor’s development agenda will ensure greater progress, stability and prosperity for all Deltans.

Igbrude maintained that peace remains the foundation for sustainable development and urged residents across the state to reject divisive tendencies and work collectively towards building a stronger and more united Delta State.
