The Oyo State Police Command has revealed that a trusted family insider allegedly played a key role in the abduction of the sister of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her two children in Ibadan.

Key Highlights:

  • Police say a family insider helped facilitate the kidnapping of Adelabu’s sister and her twin sons.
  • The suspect allegedly provided information about the family’s movements.
  • The victims were abducted on June 3 in Ibadan while on their way to school.
  • Police rescued them unharmed after a raid on the kidnappers’ hideout.
  • Several suspects were arrested, while two kidnappers were killed during the operation.

Speaking on the development on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that investigations into the June 3 kidnapping uncovered the involvement of a personal assistant attached to a member of the Adelabu family.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly supplied sensitive information about the family’s movements and daily routines, making it easier for the kidnappers to plan and carry out the operation.

The victims, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were abducted in the Elewura area of Ring Road, Ibadan, while she was reportedly taking the children to school.

The incident triggered widespread concern across Oyo State and prompted a large-scale security response involving intelligence officers, surveillance units, and tactical operatives.

Police authorities said extensive investigations eventually led security operatives to the kidnappers’ hideout, where a gun battle broke out during a rescue operation.

Two suspected kidnappers were reportedly killed in the exchange of fire, while several others were arrested.

The victims were successfully rescued unharmed and reunited with their family after days in captivity.

Ayanlade described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

He noted that investigations are still ongoing to identify additional suspects and dismantle the entire criminal network behind the abduction.

The police spokesperson also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies, emphasizing that community cooperation remains vital to combating criminal activities.

The successful rescue has been welcomed by residents and security stakeholders, who praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safe return of the victims and bringing those responsible to justice.
