The command’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, saying the incident occurred at Bakin Komau in the Dangora area of Kiru LGA.
According to the statement, armed assailants attacked a shepherd, identified as Alhaji Saleh, 70, inflicted serious injuries on him and abducted two members of his family while attempting to rustle livestock.
Abdullahi said NSCDC operatives stationed around the nearby Dansoshiya Forest swiftly responded to a distress call and engaged the criminals in a gun duel.

He explained that the attackers, overwhelmed by the superior response of the operatives, abandoned the abducted victims and fled into the forest with injuries.
“The suspects were forced to abandon their victims and escape into the forest, thereby frustrating the kidnap and cattle rustling mission,” he said.
The rescued victims, Abubakar Saleh, 36, and Muhd Inuwa Dille, 30, were subsequently reunited with their family, while the injured shepherd received immediate medical attention.
The spokesperson noted that the NSCDC personnel involved in the operation were deployed to provide security for the ongoing dam construction project in the area and to protect surrounding grazing reserves and farming communities from criminal activities.
He said the State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property and critical national assets across the state.
The command also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to enhance efforts aimed at combating crime and ensuring public safety.
Abdullahi added that efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
