The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State under the Silas Onu-led faction has declared that Mrs. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor is no longer the party’s state chairman, insisting that her tenure expired on May 19, 2026, in what is emerging as a major Ebonyi ADC crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Key Highlights:
- Silas Onu-led ADC faction says Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor’s tenure expired on May 19, 2026.
- Faction rejects resolutions from a recent stakeholders’ meeting held in Abakaliki.
- Claims individuals presented as ADC candidates did not participate in official party primaries.
- Describes the meeting convened by Tobias Nnabike Oriji as unauthorized.
- Insists all appointments, endorsements and caretaker arrangements announced at the meeting are invalid.
- Reaffirms commitment to internal democracy and due process ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Prince Igu Idika, the faction maintained that any statement, endorsement, or announcement made by Mrs. Adibe-Nwafor after the expiration of her tenure does not represent the official position of the party.
The statement was released in response to reports titled “2027 Polls: Ebonyi ADC Backs Atiku, Launches Party Unity Drive” and claims arising from an alleged all-stakeholders meeting held at Vigo Event Centre in Abakaliki.

According to the faction, the authentic ADC primary elections in Ebonyi State were conducted on May 21 and 22, 2026, by what it described as the duly recognised party leadership in line with the ADC Constitution and electoral guidelines.
Ebonyi ADC Crisis: Faction Rejects Alleged Candidates
The group further argued that individuals parading themselves as ADC candidates from the disputed meeting did not participate in the party’s officially recognised primaries.
“Anyone claiming candidacy without participating in those primaries is an impostor and has no mandate from the party,” the statement said.
The faction also dismissed the legitimacy of the stakeholders’ gathering reportedly convened by Hon. Tobias Nnabike Oriji, alleging that it was not sanctioned by the recognised leadership of the party in Ebonyi State.
According to the statement, no approval, notification or authorisation was granted for the meeting.
Party Disowns Meeting Resolutions
The Silas Onu-led faction described the gathering as an external political meeting disguised as an ADC event and insisted that all resolutions reached at the meeting are null and void.
It specifically rejected the validity of any committees, endorsements, appointments, or caretaker arrangements announced during the gathering.
“The meeting is not an ADC meeting. No notice, approval or mandate was issued by the recognised ADC leadership in Ebonyi State for such a gathering,” the statement added.
Commitment to Internal Democracy
Despite the ongoing Ebonyi ADC crisis, the faction reaffirmed its commitment to due process, party discipline, and democratic principles.
The leadership urged party members, political stakeholders, media organisations and the general public to disregard any statements, appointments, endorsements or resolutions originating from the disputed meeting.
According to the statement, the party remains focused on building a credible opposition platform in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The latest development highlights growing internal tensions within the ADC in Ebonyi State as political parties continue preparations for the next electoral cycle.
