A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, Chief David Sabo Kente, has said continued support for the Kefas administration will depend on its ability to deliver tangible results and fulfill promises made to the people.

Key Highlights:

  • APC chieftain David Sabo Kente says support for the Kefas administration depends on performance.
  • Commends ongoing road construction projects across Taraba State.
  • Warns he may withdraw support if government fails to improve by September.
  • Opposes proposed flyover project in Wukari, advocates alternative infrastructure projects.
  • Calls for greater federal appointments and opportunities for Taraba indigenes.
  • Identifies key political figures with strong followership ahead of future elections.

Speaking with journalists in Wukari on Tuesday, Kente stated that the government can only sustain public confidence and support if it significantly improves governance and delivers meaningful development across the state.

The APC stalwart maintained that political support should be earned through performance, noting that his political structure remains influential and capable of mobilising voters for candidates seeking elective positions in Taraba State.

According to him, prominent political figures such as Danjuma Usman Shiddi, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, and Joel Ikenya possess strong grassroots support and leadership credentials within the state.

Kente, who stepped aside to support Governor Agbu Kefas during the 2023 governorship election, said his future backing of the Kefas administration would be determined by the government’s achievements in the coming months.

He explained that if the administration continues to record progress, particularly in infrastructure development, he would remain a strong supporter. However, he warned that poor performance could lead him to intensify opposition against the government.

“The government must fulfill the promises it made to the people,” Kente said, while acknowledging the commencement of several road projects across the state.

Kente Questions Proposed Wukari Flyover

The APC leader also criticised plans to construct a flyover in Wukari Local Government Area, arguing that the project does not reflect the town’s immediate infrastructure needs.

According to him, the resources earmarked for the flyover would be better utilised for road dualisation, rehabilitation of township roads, drainage systems, and water supply projects.

Kente suggested that a properly designed roundabout at Takum Junction would adequately address traffic concerns without the need for an expensive flyover.

He further proposed the construction of additional roads and a ring road network to improve connectivity within Wukari and surrounding communities.

Reflecting on 2023 Election Support

Recalling events before the 2023 general elections, Kente said he convened a meeting involving representatives from all ten wards in Wukari, where participants unanimously agreed to support Agbu Kefas regardless of party affiliation.

According to him, the decision was driven by expectations that Kefas’ military background and leadership experience would translate into improved governance and development.

Calls for Greater Federal Representation

Kente also expressed concern over what he described as Taraba State’s limited representation at the federal level.

He alleged that the state has not secured enough federal appointments, board positions, and other opportunities for its indigenes.

The APC chieftain called on political leaders and elected representatives from Taraba State to intensify efforts toward securing greater federal representation and development opportunities for the people.
