The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, Chukwuemeka Chukwu, disclosed this on Wednesday, during an interview, assuring voters and stakeholders that the electoral body was making steady progress toward a successful exercise.
According to Chukwu, the commission has commenced the deployment of non-sensitive election materials to the six local government areas that make up the senatorial district.
“We are sending the non-sensitive materials today (June 3) to our council area offices involved and by Thursday (June 4), the non-sensitive materials will be further moved to INEC’s registration area centres,” he said.
The REC also revealed that all Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices designated for the election had been fully configured and power-charged to ensure seamless voter accreditation on election day.
He added that INEC had concluded a series of stakeholder engagements at the state, senatorial and local government levels, describing participation as impressive.
According to him, stakeholders raised critical questions regarding the conduct of the by-election, while the commission provided clarifications through its senior officials.
Chukwu further disclosed that four political parties would participate in the election, although he declined to identify them pending approval from INEC headquarters.

“The political parties are those whose primary elections were monitored by INEC officials, with reports already forwarded to the commission’s headquarters. We are awaiting approval before making further announcements,” he explained.
The REC said training programmes for election officials and ad hoc personnel would commence on Friday as part of final preparations.
He also disclosed that INEC would soon hold security meetings with the police and other relevant agencies to guarantee the safety of election personnel, voters and electoral materials before, during and after the by-election.
INEC had earlier announced June 20, 2026, as the date for the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election and released the official timetable for the exercise on May 21.
