The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated Daily Times on its centenary anniversary, describing the milestone as a significant moment in the history of journalism in Nigeria.

The FCT NUJ Chairman, Grace Ike, made the call in a statement issued to mark the 100th anniversary of Daily Times Nigeria.
Ike described the milestone as a rare achievement and a reflection of resilience and sustained relevance in Nigeria’s media industry.
“One hundred years is not just a number; it is a testimony to resilience, relevance and service to the Nigerian nation and to the media profession,” she said.
She commended the management and staff of Daily Times for sustaining the legacy of one of Nigeria’s oldest newspapers, noting that the publication has played a key role in shaping public opinion, promoting democratic values, and advancing journalism practice over the decades.
According to her, the newspaper’s longevity stands as evidence of the sacrifices, professionalism, and dedication of generations of journalists who sustained the institution through different political and economic eras.
Ike said the centenary celebration should serve as both a moment of celebration and reflection for media professionals across the country.
“For us in the NUJ, this celebration is also a call to reflection. It reminds us of the responsibility we bear as journalists to uphold truth, fairness, accuracy and ethical conduct in our work,” she said.
She noted that credible journalism has become even more critical in an era where digital platforms and rapid technological changes continue to reshape news production and consumption.
The NUJ chairman commended the Daily Times for commencing its centenary activities with a press conference, describing the media as a vital instrument for public enlightenment and national development.
