The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered a locally made revolver pistol as well as 10 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in separate operations across the state.

Key Highlights:

  • Delta Police arrested five suspects in separate operations targeting crime and drug trafficking.
  • A locally made revolver pistol and other weapons were recovered from three suspects in Asaba.
  • Two suspected drug traffickers were arrested along the Onitsha–Benin Expressway.
  • Police seized 10 bags of suspected Indian hemp hidden in a vehicle.
  • Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected network.

The command said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime and criminal activities in Delta. Police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Asaba.

According to him, police officers attached to the Asaba Area Command arrested three suspects during a routine patrol, behind the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) office in Asaba.

The suspects were identified as Musa Sule, Moses Sunday, and Osama Ibrahim.

Edafe said the surveillance team intercepted the suspects at about 5:30 a.m. on May 30 and subjected them to a search based on reasonable suspicion.

He said a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons were recovered from the suspects, who were immediately taken into custody.

“The exhibits have been recovered and investigation is ongoing,” he stated.

In a separate operation, officers of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) arrested two suspected drug traffickers along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway.

The suspects, identified as Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, popularly known as “Big Joe” were apprehended at about 4:00 a.m. on May 29, during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation.

The police said the suspects were travelling in an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE when they were intercepted.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 10 bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed within the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspected illicit drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka, Anambra State, before the suspects were intercepted.

The police said the suspects and exhibits are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to uncover other members of the alleged drug trafficking network.
