The Secretary-General of the Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND), Ambassador Winston Cotterel Amain, alongside six other aspirants, has emerged as candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the Bayelsa State House of Assembly elections.

Ambassador Winston Cotterel Amain secured the APGA ticket to contest for the Nembe Constituency I seat in the forthcoming Bayelsa State House of Assembly elections.
Other candidates cleared during the APGA primaries include Ikioumoton Frederick Ugo (Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency II), Joel Ebiegberi Ilebiri (Southern Ijaw IV), Chief Damiebi Asoh (Sagbama III), Disney Desire Obakimo (Yenagoa III), Alfred Iniedimo Apoh (Yenagoa II), and Pastor Bokolo Eluan.

The APGA State House of Assembly primary election panel was led by Hon. Obiene Onaemi Ibirino, alongside the panel secretary, Barrister Philip William Soroh. The exercise was conducted in the presence of the Bayelsa State APGA Chairman, Hon. Brisibe Kpodoh.
Speaking with journalists after the primary election, Ambassador Amain said his ambition was driven by a desire to improve the living conditions of his constituents and ensure equitable distribution of resources across Bayelsa communities.
He pledged to sponsor motions and laws that would strengthen development and improve accountability in the oil-rich region.
Amain, a founding member of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), stated that his transition from activism into politics was aimed at creating direct impact for the people of Nembe.
“I believe this is the right time to apply activism to politics in order to fight for a better life for my constituents. I want to defend the interests of my people on the floor of the House of Assembly,” he said.
The APGA candidate further stressed the need to domesticate the Local Content Act in Bayelsa State, arguing that such a move would compel oil multinationals to establish operational offices within host communities rather than operating externally while extracting local resources.
According to him, the people of Nembe deserve greater access to jobs, infrastructure, skills acquisition programmes, and opportunities in the oil and gas sector.
“Our women and youths need empowerment and training opportunities. Oil companies operating in our communities must become more accountable to the people,” he added.
Amain also lamented what he described as the lack of visible governance and development in parts of Nembe, promising to work with other lawmakers and the Bayelsa State Government to attract investments and improve infrastructure in the constituency.
Earlier, the Bayelsa State Chairman of APGA, Hon. Brisibe Kpodoh, assured all successful candidates that certificates of return would be officially presented during a scheduled event in Anambra State under the leadership of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
Kpodoh warned party candidates against anti-party activities, inducement by opposition parties, and stepping down for rival candidates during the general elections.
“APGA stands for the progress and welfare of the people. Every candidate must remain committed to the party and work for the success of the people,” he stated.
